Tertiary education

Tertiary education is divided in universities, colleges, community colleges and technical training institute. At universities you can get Bachelor’s degree ( 4-year ), Master’s degree ( 2-year ), Doctor degree ( 4-year ) and so on.
The students must pay fees. There are public and private colleges and universities in the USA. There is no age limit there. Universities have big libraries, very good research facilities.
Ivy league – there belongs the most prestigious universities ( f. ex. Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton ). You must have good high school credits and grades must be good or you must pass in the SAT ( scholastic aptitude test ). First 2 years the students must study a general course in the arts or the sciences And then they choose his subject on area of studies in which they will specialize for the following two yeas. If they finish they receive some title.
Fraternities and sororities are organizations of college students. Members have to go through initiation rites and pay fees. Each society has a name from 2 or 3 Greek letters
Because the students must pay for tert. educ. they work full time during the summer and part time during the school year. Parents can pay for it all or students can take a student loan
