Discipline and punishment

Hidden curriculum – the school keeps rules in behaviour and prepare pupils ( future adults ) for their future life.
During break times the playgrounds are supervised by the teachers. Any pupil caught smoking in the toilet will be dealt with the teacher who is on duty that particular day or he will be sent to the tutor and he decide about punishment There are also thing like bullying, truancy, stealing or fighting in school. They are considered to be most serious offences.
On the other side punctuality, courtesy and honesty are very important qualities in a student. Pupils being caught cheating in an exam are very strictly punished.
Punishment takes on a variety of forms. Children could be physically punished for their behaviour until quite recently but the cane is still used in independent school. The most typical form of punishment is – to be in detention ( = a pupil must remain perfectly silent or write some lines ( for example: “ I must not smoke in the toilets” – 100 or 150times ).
To be on report – is next type of punishment. At the end of lesson a pupil “ on report ” hands to the teacher his report card. Teacher writes down behaviour of this pupil. Then the card will be sent to a tutor or a headmaster, if it’s a necessary. In case of exclusion pupils are forbidden to attend school for a limited period of time.
Expulsion occur when the student has behaved badly. An expelled student is banned from the school but he can continue in another school with his past record.
