Consumption of British cars

Consumption of British cars is expressed in miles per gallon. The reason is that in England, there are 2 coexisting systems
• metric
• imperial - more common

In England you may still buy leaded petrol besides unleaded petrol and the amount of octans is expressed the number of stars (the bigger number of stars, the lower content of lead).

In England you may use other means of transport.
Very popular is travelling by train. There are 2 kinds of trains:
• Intercity 125’sthe number says the maximum speed (miles per hour). These trains connect majority of big cities in England. You may travel in 2 kinds of wagons (Am. Cars) - the 1st class, where the seats are much more comfortable and the aisles are wider. And the standard class.

You may buy 2 kinds of tickets
• single ticket
• return tickets are actually 2 tickets stampled together, outward direction + backward direction - one for each direction. (open date ticket - you may travel whenever you like). A reserved ticket-the seat is reserved for you to a particular day and train. You may buy “one-day” ticket called reduced ticket. If it’s return ticket, you must go forth and back in 1 day. It’s convenient because they are usually for half price. The ticket must be purchased at the railway station + they are checked by the ticket inspector (Am conductor) who tears the tickets.

• A sprinter- runs usually shorter distances, they don’t go as fast as 125s. You buy the ticket in the train from the ticket inspector. It’s used by commuters.
